Adaptogens

Herbs and fungi (like Ashwagandha or Reishi) that help the body resist stressors of all kinds, whether physical, chemical, or biological.

Antioxidants

Molecules that fight free radicals in your body, preventing cellular damage. Common sources include berries, dark chocolate, and leafy greens.

Ayurveda

A traditional Indian system of medicine based on the idea of balance in bodily systems and diet, using three doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha).

Circadian Rhythm

The body's internal 24-hour clock that regulates the sleep-wake cycle, responding primarily to light and darkness.

Collagen

The most abundant protein in the body, providing structure to skin, bones, muscles, and tendons. Production declines with age.

Cortisol

The body's primary stress hormone, which increases sugars (glucose) in the bloodstream and enhances the brain's use of glucose.

Gut Microbiome

The community of trillions of bacteria, fungi, and viruses living in your digestive tract, influencing everything from digestion to immunity and mood.

Glymphatic System

A waste clearance system in the brain that is most active during deep sleep, flushing out toxins like beta-amyloid.

Hyaluronic Acid

A substance naturally found in the body that retains moisture and is capable of holding 1,000 times its weight in water. Popular in skincare.

Macronutrients

Nutrients required in large amounts that provide energy: carbohydrates, proteins, and fats.

Mindfulness

The psychological process of purposely bringing one's attention to experiences occurring in the present moment without judgment.

Nootropics

Substances (like caffeine, L-theanine, or creatine) that may improve cognitive function, particularly executive functions, memory, creativity, or motivation.

REM Sleep

Rapid Eye Movement sleep, a stage characterized by dreaming, rapid eye movements, and increased brain activity. Crucial for memory consolidation.

Retinol

A derivative of Vitamin A used in skincare to treat acne and reduce signs of aging by increasing cell turnover.
